Angel Studios' latest live-action feature, 'Young Washington', has made a significant impact at the box office, exceeding its initial forecast with a $20.8 million opening.

This performance marks the faith-based media company's best opening for a live-action film to date, following the success of last year's 'Sound of Freedom'.

The strong debut of 'Young Washington' has already paved the way for a sequel, with director, producer, and co-writer Jon Erwin confirming that '1776' is in development.

The film's success is particularly notable as it drew a substantial audience from the Mountain, Midwest, Southcentral, and South regions, which accounted for 67% of its weekend gross.

This indicates a continued trend of independent distributors like Angel Studios successfully reaching audiences in the middle of the U.S.

'Young Washington' also performed well on July 4th, securing the No.

2 spot at the domestic box office with $7.6 million.

Demographically, the film attracted a significant older audience, with 47% of moviegoers being over 55, a demographic that has been slower to return to theaters post-Covid.

Critics and audiences have responded positively, with the film receiving an 'A' CinemaScore and an 81% definite recommend from PostTrak.

William Franklyn-Miller stars as George Washington, supported by a cast including Ben Kingsley, Andy Serkis, Mary-Louise Parker, and Kelsey Grammer.

The film also received a public endorsement from 'Guardians of the Galaxy' star Chris Pratt, who encouraged his fans to see it, comparing it to films like 'The Revenant' and 'Braveheart'.

Brandon Purdie, EVP of Theatrical at Angel Studios, expressed gratitude for the audience's embrace of 'Young Washington' during the nation's 250th-anniversary celebration, highlighting the power of storytelling.

Jon Erwin, who is also the Chief Creative Officer of Wonder Project, the film's production company, shared his hope that this film marks the beginning of many extraordinary American stories told through film and television.
