Angelina Jolie is set to star in the new drama "Couture," where she portrays Maxine Walker, an American filmmaker confronting a breast cancer diagnosis while working in Paris.

The film, directed by Alice Winocour, explores themes of mortality, personal choices, and identity, resonating deeply with Jolie's own reflections on life.

Jolie, 51, shared that she is currently taking stock of her own life, much like her character.

She noted a significant shift in her perspective compared to decades ago, stating, "I've come around to being a little bit more the person I used to be." This introspection is largely influenced by her daughters, Zahara, Shiloh, and Vivienne, whom she shares with ex-husband Brad Pitt, along with sons Maddox, Pax, and Knox.

"I'm discovering something now that my daughters are older.

They're talking to me as young women, and I'm seeing what I want for them," Jolie explained.

She believes her daughters are inadvertently guiding her back to her former self, reminding her of qualities she may have lost.

"I think they kind of want me now to not just be 'Mom.' There's a different room for me to be that woman again, that's not just a mom."

This personal connection to the film's themes extends to its portrayal of a health journey.

Having publicly navigated her own preventative double mastectomy in 2013 due to carrying the BRCA1 gene mutation, Jolie found the script's depiction of a cancer diagnosis incredibly realistic.

Her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, passed away from complications of ovarian and breast cancer in 2007, further deepening Jolie's understanding of the story's emotional weight.

Director Alice Winocour, who drew from her own experiences, felt Jolie was the ideal choice for the role, noting her "special connection with the subject." Jolie was particularly moved by the film's subtle yet real details surrounding devastating news, such as the initial disbelief and the struggle to communicate with loved ones.

Beyond the diagnosis, Jolie highlighted the film's focus on Maxine's sexuality post-diagnosis and her relationship with her cinematographer, played by Louis Garrel.

She praised the script for challenging the notion that illness should define a person's entire identity.

"This was a part of continuing to live all aspects, to live to your last breath, right?" she said, emphasizing the importance of not living solely as a patient.

Exploring this aspect of her character also prompted personal reflection for Jolie, who admitted she hasn't dated since her divorce a decade ago.

Playing Maxine, a mother with a daughter, helped her realize that motherhood and personal needs are not mutually exclusive.

Ultimately, Jolie believes the film's most profound love story is between a mother and daughter, serving as a reminder that difficult moments can clarify life's true priorities.

For Angelina Jolie, this means a renewed desire to "live again" and "be free again," acknowledging that "life has broken me a little bit."

"Couture" is scheduled to be in theaters on Friday, June 26.
