Disney has revealed new details about its upcoming animated feature, “Hexed,” and a new theatrical short, “Lilo & Scratch,” during the Annecy festival.

These announcements highlight Disney's continued commitment to animation, bringing fresh stories and familiar characters to audiences.

“Hexed,” which will be the 65th animated film from Disney, centers on a character named Billie who uncovers her magical powers.

Directors Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand presented work-in-progress footage, emphasizing the film's exploration of magic and its impact on those who wield it.

The movie is described as a mother-daughter love story at its core, exploring themes of identity and rebellion through Billie's journey.

Hailee Steinfeld will voice Billie, with a cast that also includes Rashida Jones, Tracey Ullman, Alan Tudyk, and Stephen Fry.

The film's animation style is designed to allow for significant physical humor.

Billie's story involves a special bracelet given to her by her mother to limit her magic, which she eventually removes, leading to an accident that reveals her true self.

She finds herself in Hexe, a realm of witches, where she learns about magic and meets new companions, including Beef Roger Crummchuk.

In addition to “Hexed,” Disney announced a new theatrical short titled “Lilo & Scratch.” This short marks the first new theatrical short from the studio in five years.

Director Fawn Veerasunthorn stated that the short takes place shortly after the original film, with Stitch living happily with Lilo until she introduces a new family member: a cat.

Chris Sanders will return to voice Stitch in what is described as a “wild, chaotic chase around the island.” The short is expected to be released in the fall.
