Lilo & Stitch Directors Honor Late Voice Actress Daveigh Chase
Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, the directors behind Disney's animated film "Lilo & Stitch," have honored Daveigh Chase, the voice actress for the character Lilo, following her death at 35.
Chase passed away on Wednesday after suffering from meningitis, which subsequently led to sepsis.
This development is significant as it marks the passing of a key voice talent from a beloved animated film.
The directors posted a tribute on social media featuring an image of a crying Stitch holding a sandwich, alongside Scrump the doll and Pudge the fish.
In the 2002 movie, Lilo's connection with Pudge is depicted as a coping mechanism for dealing with the loss of her parents.
Beyond her role as Lilo, Daveigh Chase also had notable performances as Samara in "The Ring" and provided the voice for Chihiro in "Spirited Away."
In the wake of Chase's passing, a GoFundMe campaign was initiated by her boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, reportedly to cover burial expenses.
However, the legitimacy of this fundraiser has been challenged by Chase's former manager, John Ryan.
Ryan informed Deadline that "Daveigh’s estate has plenty of means to pay for the cremation" and stated that Chase's father had not authorized any arrangements with Hernandez.
Ryan explicitly warned against donating to the GoFundMe, asserting, "That GoFundMe is not going toward ANY expenses for Daveigh." He further accused Hernandez of exploiting Chase's death for personal gain, claiming that Hernandez brought Chase to the hospital in a critical state and withheld information from her family until after her passing, allegedly to control the narrative.
Ryan concluded by stating, "There are no medical bills to be paid or funeral expenses," and expressed the family's distress over Chase's condition before her death, suggesting Hernandez was attempting to portray a "Romeo and Juliet situation to benefit his own pockets."
