Actress Emmy Rossum recently disclosed details about a secret marriage she entered into at the age of 21, following an alleged ultimatum from her then-boyfriend, music executive Justin Siegel.

Rossum shared her experience on the podcast "Call Her Daddy," explaining that she accepted the marriage proposal despite internal reservations.

The decision to marry came during a vulnerable period for Rossum, who was preparing to film "Dragon Ball Evolution" in Mexico for six months.

She recounted Siegel's alleged ultimatum in 2008: "I don't know if the relationship is gonna survive the distance.

So like, maybe we should break up or get married." Rossum admitted that her 21-year-old self, having recently experienced heartbreak, viewed divorce as a straightforward option if the marriage didn't work out.

Rossum described the wedding as an unromantic, impromptu event.

She claimed Siegel printed a marriage contract online, and a person from the internet officiated the ceremony at her home.

She wore a white turtleneck from her closet, feeling a sense of unease and knowing in her gut that the decision wasn't right.

This early marriage is significant as it sheds light on the personal challenges faced by young celebrities navigating relationships under pressure.

The actress kept the marriage a secret from nearly everyone, including her mother, due to her intuition that it was a mistake.

During her six months of filming in Mexico, Siegel reportedly did not visit her, further straining the relationship.

Upon her return, Rossum said it became clear they were not compatible.

Eventually, Rossum had to inform her mother about the marriage, not with happy news, but to seek assistance in ending it.

She recalled telling her mother, "Hey, I'm breaking up with Justin and I need a lawyer." The divorce was finalized in 2010.

Years later, Emmy Rossum found love again and married director, screenwriter, and producer Sam Esmail in 2017.

They met on the set of "Comet" in 2013 and now share two children, a daughter born in 2021 and a son born in 2023.

Rossum expressed that her current relationship with Esmail and his role as a father has been a healing experience for her.
