Gwyneth Paltrow Discusses Her "Centrist" Political Stance on The Goop Podcast
Gwyneth Paltrow recently addressed her political views during an episode of The Goop Podcast, describing herself as a "centrist" and an "independent." This clarification comes as the actress navigates public perception of her political leanings, a topic that has drawn varied reactions.
Paltrow, 53, shared that her husband, Brad Falchuk, whom she characterized as "so progressive," often thinks she leans Republican.
Despite this, Paltrow expressed a sense of detachment from traditional party affiliations, stating, "I don’t feel anything right now, to be totally honest with you.
I feel like I’m completely an independent."
During the podcast, Paltrow engaged in a discussion with Trae Stephens, co-founder of AI defense company Anduril, who emphasized the need for "open, respectful dialogue" to address the United States' challenges.
Paltrow echoed this sentiment, agreeing that the country has become "so binary" and expressing her personal journey to "weave together lots of different points of view" and move past "righteousness and anger and fear."
Her comments have sparked reactions, with some on the right interpreting them as an alignment with conservative views.
Meghan McCain, for instance, posted on X, "She has ALWAYS given me MAHA mom vibes!!
Come on in, the water’s fine, Gwyneth." Conversely, others criticized her stance, with one user on X suggesting her statement of "I don’t feel anything" indicated a lack of empathy and a likely Republican leaning.
This isn't the first time Paltrow has spoken about her political perspective.
Following Donald Trump’s 2016 victory, she suggested an openness to understanding different political viewpoints, stating, "I really need to open my mind and understand better because I don’t." While she has not publicly disclosed her vote in recent elections, Paltrow did host a Democratic National Committee fundraiser for former President Barack Obama at her Los Angeles home in October 2014, where she famously told him, "You’re so handsome that I can’t speak properly."
According to a new biography by Amy Odell, which draws on interviews with over 200 sources, many find Paltrow "triggering" due to her privileged upbringing as the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and director Bruce Paltrow.
Paltrow's brand, Goop, is estimated to be worth $250 million.
She married Brad Falchuk, co-creator of *American Horror Story* and *Glee*, in 2018, following her previous marriage to Coldplay singer Chris Martin.
