John Stamos recently opened up about the end of his first marriage to Rebecca Romijn, revealing that he "didn't want to get divorced" when they separated in 2004.

The actor shared these reflections on the June 10 episode of Bobbi Althoff's *The Really Good Podcast*.

Stamos, 62, explained that the divorce "broke my heart" and took him a long time to overcome.

He noted that Romijn, 53, was the one who wanted the separation.

## Encounter with Jerry O'Connell

During the podcast, Stamos also recounted a recent meeting with Romijn's current husband, Jerry O'Connell.

Stamos described O'Connell as "very sweet," "very, very funny," and "charming" after they met at a party.

He mentioned that he hadn't seen Romijn since their divorce was finalized in 2005, and had only met O'Connell once before, decades ago.

Romijn and Stamos were married in 1998.

Following their divorce, Stamos married Caitlin McHugh in 2018, and they have a son named Billy.

Romijn and O'Connell, 52, wed in 2007 and are parents to 17-year-old twin daughters, Charlie and Dolly.

In November, O'Connell posted a photo on Instagram with Stamos and McHugh, captioning it, “Gorgeous fam and gorgeous people.”

Stamos previously discussed the difficulty of writing about his first marriage in his memoir, *If You Would Have Told Me*, telling PEOPLE in October 2023 that it "was shattering to me." He admitted that his healing process was "not healthy" and involved increased drinking, but ultimately led him to a better place and his current wife, Caitlin.
