Thordur Palsson to Direct 'Dead by Daylight' Film Adaptation for Blumhouse
The popular horror multiplayer game *Dead by Daylight* is set to receive a film adaptation, with Icelandic director Thordur Palsson confirmed to helm the project.
The announcement was made during the game's 10th-anniversary celebration in Montreal, a significant milestone for the franchise.
Palsson, known for his work on Netflix’s *The Valhalla Murders* and his debut feature film *The Damned*, will direct the movie for Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Behaviour Interactive.
This development is particularly noteworthy as it brings a director with a proven track record in atmospheric storytelling to a game celebrated for its tension and horror elements.
Jason Blum, founder and CEO of Blumhouse Atomic Monster, expressed confidence in Palsson, stating, “Thordur is the filmmaker we trust to carry Dead by Daylight from the screen you play on to the big screen you watch in theaters.” James Wan, Blum’s co-founder and CEO, also highlighted Palsson's ability to create a sense of dread, noting that *The Damned* demonstrated his capacity to make audiences “feel the walls closing in.”
The *Dead by Daylight* video game pits one player as a Killer against four Survivors.
The Killer's objective is to hunt down and sacrifice the Survivors to an entity, while the Survivors must evade capture and activate exit gates by repairing generators.
This unique gameplay dynamic has garnered a large following, with one million people reportedly playing the game daily.
Stephen Mulrooney, chief product officer for Behaviour Interactive and a producer on the film, praised Palsson’s “distinct vision, atmospheric storytelling and ability to build tension.” He believes Palsson is the ideal creative voice to translate the game's universe to the big screen, appealing to both long-time fans and new audiences.
Blum, Wan, and Mulrooney are serving as producers on the film.
Executive producers include Remi Racine from Behaviour Interactive, Michael Clear and Judson Scott from Atomic Monster, Ryan Turek from Blumhouse, and Russell Binder from Striker Entertainment.
