Veteran actor James Handy, 81, was identified as the victim of a fatal stabbing that occurred on Wednesday, June 3, in Tarzana.

Handy, known for his roles in films such as "Jumanji" and "Top Gun: Maverick," was found with a stab wound to the chest at a residence.

Los Angeles police responded to a 911 call where the caller reportedly stated, "I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin." Upon arrival, officers discovered Handy in the front yard, unconscious.

He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities subsequently arrested Michael Gledhill, 44, who is the son of Handy's girlfriend and resides at the home.

Gledhill reportedly told officers he was the individual they were seeking.

He has been booked on suspicion of one count of murder, with his bail set at $2 million, according to jail records.

James Handy had a career spanning decades in film and television.

Beyond his role as an exterminator in the 1995 film "Jumanji" and as the bartender Jimmy in the 2022 film "Top Gun: Maverick," his credits also include appearances in popular TV crime dramas such as "NCIS: Los Angeles," "The Closer," and "Cold Case." This development is significant as it marks the tragic end to the life of a recognizable figure in the entertainment industry.

Pam Ellis-Evenas of the Ellis Talent Group, Handy's representative, expressed her grief in an email to The Associated Press, stating, "I could not have asked for a more talented, humble or gracious client and friend than James Handy."
