John Oliver Secures Guest Role on ABC's 'General Hospital'
Late-night television host John Oliver is making a temporary move to daytime, securing a three-episode guest role on ABC's long-running soap opera, 'General Hospital'.
Oliver, known for his work on 'Last Week Tonight', is scheduled to make his debut this Thursday, with additional appearances slated for Friday and Monday, July 6.
This development marks a notable crossover for the Emmy-winning comedian.
The opportunity arose after Oliver publicly appealed to soap opera producers during a March episode of 'Last Week Tonight'.
He expressed a strong desire to appear on a daytime drama, specifically requesting a character with a "ridiculous" name and a "juicy" storyline involving elements like murder, slapping, or being a long-lost relative.
'General Hospital' responded to his plea via Instagram, inviting him to Port Charles.
Frank Valentini, executive producer of 'General Hospital', confirmed Oliver's involvement, stating that the host was "everything you’d hope he’d be: prepared, professional, funny, and genuinely kind to everyone on set." Valentini added that Oliver plays an "integral character" in the ongoing story, and he looks forward to fans seeing who Oliver's character interacts with in Port Charles.
Oliver himself commented on the experience, saying, "General Hospital was everything I hoped it would be.
It’s a true honor to be a small stain on the history of this illustrious show." While details about his character remain under wraps, a promotional photo shows Oliver with dyed black hair and a monochrome suit, suggesting he will not be playing himself and that his character means business.
