Kingston Rumi Southwick, the 18-year-old actor starring in Apple TV+'s horror-comedy series *Widow's Bay*, has expressed his enthusiasm for the show's success and anticipation for its second season.

Southwick, who portrays Evan, the son of Matthew Rhys' character Tom, recently shared insights into the production and his hopes for the future of the series.

*Widow's Bay*, which premiered in April, has garnered critical and viewership momentum.

Southwick recalled his initial reaction to the script, stating, "I remember reading it for the first time and being like, I love this." The actor noted the show's unique tone, a blend of horror and comedy, was challenging to execute but ultimately successful.

## Filming in Massachusetts

A significant aspect of creating the show's atmosphere was its filming location.

Southwick highlighted that shooting across Massachusetts, particularly in small coastal towns outside Boston, greatly contributed to the series' spooky New England vibe.

"We would shoot in these smaller sea towns outside of Boston, in people’s houses," he explained, adding that conversations with homeowners often revealed local stories that mirrored the show's themes.

This immersive experience helped cast and crew get into the mindset of a haunted seaside community, making Massachusetts a crucial element of the *Widow's Bay* narrative.

Creator Katie Dippold spent years developing the show's distinctive tone, which resonated with Southwick.

He observed that *Widow's Bay* effectively reinterprets horror tropes, offering an original concept within a genre that often relies on sequels and established franchises.

Southwick also praised the show's comedic elements, acknowledging the difficulty in balancing humor with horror.

## Character Development and Future Hopes

For Southwick, playing Evan has been a rewarding experience.

He described Evan as a "really smart kid" who often holds back his thoughts and feelings.

The complex father-son dynamic between Evan and Tom is a central driving force for Evan's character arc, marked by many unspoken emotions, partly due to Evan growing up without a mother.

This background has shaped Evan's emotional intelligence and his approach to expressing himself.

Looking ahead to the recently announced second season, Southwick is eager to explore Evan's growth and potential for new experiences.

He anticipates more "mischief" and deeper character development for Evan.

Having primarily worked in dramas, Southwick views *Widow's Bay* as an opportunity to venture into comedic roles, believing the second season will offer many chances for Evan to be in "crazy, funny situation[s]."
