Magic: The Gathering's Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart Set Reveals 51 Themes and Over 180 New Cards
Magic: The Gathering is set to launch its Marvel Super Heroes crossover, introducing a new edition of Jumpstart that features 51 distinct theme packs.
This release will include over 180 brand new cards and more than 60 reprints, which will be exclusive to this particular Jumpstart product.
Jumpstart offers an accessible entry point into Magic: The Gathering, allowing players to combine two themed packs to create a 40-card deck instantly.
The Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart set maintains this format, with players potentially mixing themes like Fantastic Four with Dr.
Doom, or Agents of Shield with Young Avengers.
Each of the 51 themes has a unique card list, comprising new cards, existing cards from the main Marvel Super Heroes set, reprints from past sets, and essential land cards.
While there is no variability within a specific theme's card list, some themes are rarer than others; for instance, the Fantastic Four pack is designated at Mythic rarity, while Young Avengers is a Common theme.
New Cards and Reprints in Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart
Each theme pack typically contains between three and seven brand new cards.
These new cards bear the MSC set code, indicating they are not legal in Magic's Standard format but can be used in "Eternal" formats such as Commander.
This distinction is important for players who participate in various Magic formats beyond casual Jumpstart play.
In addition to the new cards, 62 existing cards from previous sets have been reprinted with the MSC set code.
These reprints include classics like Lightning Bolt, now featuring Thor in new art, and direct reprints with art from last year's Spider-Man set.
Some unexpected reprints, such as the combo card Doomsday, are also included, potentially synergizing with new cards like "Doctor Doom, Unrivaled" found in the DOOM theme pack.
The Marvel Super Heroes set is scheduled for tabletop prerelease events starting June 19, followed by a digital release on MTG Arena on June 23, and a full paper release on June 26.
