The Okanogan County Coroner has officially confirmed the cause of death for Matt Brown, a former star of Discovery Channel's "Alaskan Bush People," ruling it a suicide.

Brown's death resulted from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, with methamphetamine use and subsequent immersion in water also identified as contributing factors.

This development provides clarity after Brown's body was recovered from a Washington river on Saturday.

His brother, Noah Brown, was reportedly present at the scene.

Days prior, another brother, Bear Brown, had shared on social media his belief that Matt had died, based on witness accounts of him taking his own life.

This official confirmation brings a tragic end to the uncertainty surrounding his passing.

Matt Brown was known to millions as one of the original cast members of "Alaskan Bush People," a docudrama that followed the Brown family's off-grid lifestyle in Alaska for 14 seasons until its conclusion in 2022.

He had previously left the show due to ongoing struggles with addiction.

His brother, Bear, had openly discussed Matt's long-standing battle with alcohol and drugs.

Bear had previously urged the public to stop sending money to Matt, stating that the funds were being used for his vices and that Matt needed to seek rehabilitation.

Bear clarified that the family had not shunned Matt, but rather, Matt had distanced himself from the family.

Bear recounted encouraging Matt to maintain his sobriety.

In their last conversation, Matt reportedly admitted to having "fallen off the wagon" after a difficult breakup and excessive drinking.

Despite these struggles, Bear expressed his shock, stating, "I would have never thought that Matt would take his own life."

On Monday, the Brown family released a heartfelt statement on Instagram, honoring Matt's life.

They described him as "intelligent, curious, creative, and endlessly fascinated by the world around him," as well as "a gifted outdoorsman, fisherman, boatman, artist, and lifelong learner." The statement acknowledged that Matt's life included "mistakes, struggles, and painful chapters" but emphasized that his life should not be defined solely by his lowest moments.
