Michael Weatherly Set for Season-Long Return to CBS's 'NCIS'
Michael Weatherly is set to reprise his role as Tony DiNozzo, returning to CBS's long-running series 'NCIS' for a season-long arc this fall.
This development comes six months after the cancellation of the spinoff 'NCIS: Tony & Ziva', which had reunited Weatherly with co-star Cote de Pablo.
Weatherly's return to the flagship series marks a significant moment for fans, especially after the recent conclusion of the 'Tony & Ziva' spinoff.
The network has not commented on whether Cote de Pablo, who played Ziva, will also return to 'NCIS', nor have they addressed how the events of 'Tony & Ziva' might be integrated or retconned into the main series storyline.
The possibility of continuing the spinoff's narrative, with or without de Pablo, remains unconfirmed by CBS.
Season 24 of 'NCIS' will air on Tuesdays at 8:00 PM, ET/PT, beginning this fall on CBS and available for streaming on Paramount+.
Weatherly's character, Tony DiNozzo, first appeared in the two-episode backdoor pilot for 'NCIS' during 'JAG's eighth season.
He was a main cast member on 'NCIS' from its inception until his departure in the Season 13 finale.
His recent engagement with the 'NCIS' universe was through 'NCIS: Tony & Ziva', which premiered last fall.
That spinoff continued the story of Tony and Ziva after her presumed death, with Tony leaving the NCIS team to raise their daughter, and Ziva later being discovered alive and reunited with her family in Paris.
When CBS announced the new spinoff 'NCIS: New York' in April, questions arose regarding a potential second season for 'Tony & Ziva'.
Amy Reisenbach, CBS Entertainment President, indicated that the decision was driven by a desire to bring back the character of Sam Hanna, played by LL Cool J.
Hanna has appeared across three 'NCIS' franchise shows, including the original series, 'NCIS: Los Angeles', and 'NCIS: Hawai’i'.
'NCIS: New York' is slated to air on Tuesday nights at 9 p.m.
this fall, positioned between 'NCIS' and 'NCIS: Origins'.
The current cast of 'NCIS', which focuses on special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, includes Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Katrina Law, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, and Gary Cole.
The executive producers for Season 24 include Steven D.
Binder, Chas.
