Navarone Garcia Defends GoFundMe for Pizza Business Amid Backlash
Navarone Garcia, the 37-year-old son of Priscilla Presley and screenwriter Marco Garibaldi, is defending his decision to use a GoFundMe campaign to fund his new pizza business.
The musician faced criticism after launching the crowdfunding effort to raise money for an "affordable organic pizza" venture he plans to operate from his Los Angeles driveway.
This development matters to the audience because it highlights the public's scrutiny of individuals with famous family connections who seek crowdfunding for personal business endeavors.
Garcia has already saved $3,000 for the project and is seeking an additional $5,500 to purchase an industrial pizza oven.
The fundraiser, however, drew backlash on social media, with many questioning why Garcia would not seek financial assistance from his mother, Priscilla Presley, who is 81.
Addressing the criticism, Garcia told TMZ that he has no intention of asking Presley for money.
He explained, "She loves the idea but I can't ask for money for every whimsical idea I have or we both would be broke." He added that his mother would support the business once it is operational.
Garcia, who is also the half-brother of the late Lisa Marie Presley, is known as the lead singer of the Los Angeles-based band Them Guns.
On the GoFundMe page, he expressed his long-standing desire to start his own business, noting that marketing, advertising, and the expenses of a brick-and-mortar shop have historically been obstacles.
In an Instagram post defending his crowdfunding, Garcia acknowledged the criticism, stating, "Haters gonna hate… and I’m sure I’ll have to explain this many more times to ignorant people who think I should ‘ask my mom’ or that I have money." He clarified that he has bills and a budget, and regularly donates to other causes and the homeless, but does not publicize these actions.
He also mentioned having "crazy ADD" and trying many things, explaining that going "all in every time I thought I had a great idea… I’d be broke in two days."
Further elaborating on his stance in a subsequent Instagram post, Garcia compared those donating to his GoFundMe to investors.
He wrote, "It’s crazy how many people seem to think every business is created by asking someone’s mom for money.
Of all the business i know, NOONE just went all in with their own money.
Investors are a thing, and people love PiZZA!
And pizza THEY SHALL RECIEVE!
Peace and love everybody!"
