Sam Reid, who plays Lestat de Lioncourt in AMC's *The Vampire Lestat*, has shed light on the core motivations driving his character in the show's third season.

According to Reid, despite Lestat's flamboyant rock-star persona, the vampire is deeply seeking validation, particularly from his former lover, Louis de Pointe du Lac.

The series, previously known as *Interview With the Vampire*, has been retitled *The Vampire Lestat* for its third season, signaling a significant shift in narrative focus.

While the first two seasons presented Lestat through Louis's perceptions, the new season places Lestat's own experiences and perspective at the forefront.

This change allows for a deeper exploration of Lestat's inner world, moving beyond the "arch, impetuous, and violent figure" Louis often depicted.

Reid emphasizes that this is not a new version of Lestat, but rather a more complete one.

"He's all of these things," Reid stated, referring to the various facets of the character.

The season premiere, "Detroit," introduces Lestat fronting a rock band, a theatrical outlet that allows him to process centuries of trauma, including his difficult childhood and the anguish of his own turning into a vampire.

To embody the rock-star role convincingly, Reid undertook extensive preparation.

He recorded nearly two dozen songs for the season and learned to play several instruments, including acoustic guitar, violin, electric guitar, and piano.

He even performed in character at a concert following the New York premiere.

Reid views Lestat's onstage persona as a continuation of his theatrical nature, a way for the supernatural being to present himself openly.

This season delves into Lestat's self-doubt and his capacity for self-reflection, aspects often overshadowed in previous seasons where he was seen through Louis's eyes.

Reid explained that Lestat is "desperately trying to seek approval and love and acceptance," and this desire for validation is most acutely directed towards Louis.

The actor hopes viewers will recognize Lestat's aspirational nature and resilience, despite his constant struggles and need for external affirmation.
