Taylor Swift has made history as the youngest woman to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The pop superstar also became the organization's first Hal David Starlight Award winner to join its ranks as a member.

At the 2026 ceremony on Thursday, June 11, Swift delivered a 20-minute speech, marking a significant milestone in her career.

Addressing an audience that included her fiancé Travis Kelce, mother Andrea, and future mother-in-law Donna, Swift began by acknowledging her hoarse voice, a result of cheering at a New York Knicks game and singing along to performances earlier in the evening.

She also recognized sombr, who performed her songs “Cardigan” and “Dear John” in her honor.

Swift became emotional as she reflected on her journey in the music industry, emphasizing the consistent role of songwriting.

She stated, “If I look back at my entire 23-year career in music, the ups and downs and industry battles, the trials and tribulations… songwriting was the easiest thing I ever did.” This sentiment underscores the profound personal connection she has with her craft, despite the challenges of her public life.

A Star-Studded Induction Ceremony

The induction ceremony took place at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

Alongside Swift, other notable inductees included Alanis Morissette, Kenny Loggins, KISS members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, Walter Afanasieff, Terry Britten and Graham Lyle, and Christopher “Tricky” Stewart.

The event was made even more special by acclaimed director Steven Spielberg, who introduced Swift.

Swift's induction comes during a busy period, as she recently released “I Knew It, I Knew You” for the *Toy Story 5* soundtrack.

She also made a surprise appearance at the film’s world premiere, performing the new song and a duet with Randy Newman on “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.”

During her speech, Swift shared insights into her songwriting process, recalling how she started writing after learning three guitar chords at age 12.

She described how she would prepare for co-writing sessions by stockpiling partially completed songs, allowing collaborators to choose which ideas to develop further.

She also spoke about her dedication to observing human emotions and experiences, which she translates into her music.

Swift offered advice to young artists, encouraging them to prioritize their core passions.

She highlighted the importance of trusting intuition in an industry increasingly focused on metrics and data.

She also touched on the inevitability of criticism, advising artists to be both sensitive and durable, taking constructive feedback while discarding what is damaging to creativity.

Swift concluded by expressing gratitude to her fans, who have supported her stories and music for two decades, making her songs a part of their lives.
