YouTuber Jesse Ridgway, known for his channel with over 4.34 million subscribers, recently shared a deeply personal and difficult decision he and his wife, Ashley Ridgway, made regarding their pregnancy.

The couple, who had announced earlier this year that they were expecting their first child, chose to terminate the pregnancy after their baby was diagnosed with Trisomy 21, commonly known as Down syndrome.

Jesse Ridgway explained their decision in a detailed social media post, stating, “We are devastated.

This has been extremely traumatic for both of us, especially Ashley.” He noted that Ashley underwent the procedure earlier in the week and is now recovering physically, though emotionally, both are drained.

The couple, who married last year, made this choice after learning about the potential health and developmental challenges associated with Down syndrome, including congenital heart defects, hearing loss, and delayed physical and cognitive development.

Ridgway initially expressed optimism upon hearing the news, believing they could manage a child with intellectual delays.

However, he stated that he "didn’t fully understand what Down Syndrome entailed" until further research, which led him to conclude that the condition is "objectively sh*tty from a health perspective." He emphasized that the decision was not made lightly and was based on what they believed would be beneficial for their family in the long run.
