A24's 'The Invite' Secures Top 6 Box Office Spot in Nationwide Expansion

A24's film, 'The Invite,' directed by Olivia Wilde, has achieved a significant milestone by securing the No.

6 spot at the domestic box office.

In its third week, the movie expanded its limited release to 1,610 locations, adding over $5.7 million to its earnings.

This expansion brings its total cumulative gross to $7.38 million.

This strong performance for 'The Invite' is notable as it indicates a positive reception from both critics and audiences.

The film, which features a cast including Wilde, Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton, boasts a 96% Certified Fresh rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

Audience scores are also high, with an 88% positive rating and strong exit polls, showing a 69% definite recommend and 4 1/2 stars.

'The Invite' initially launched on just seven screens, achieving one of the year's top per-screen openings.

Its continued success in a wider release highlights its appeal and potential for further growth in the indie film market.

Other independent films also made their mark this weekend.

Angel Studios' 'Young Washington' landed at No.

5, while Focus Features' 'Obsession' took the No.

7 spot.

A24 also saw another film, 'Backrooms,' reach No.

10.

'Obsession,' now in its ninth week, has crossed $250 million, making it the fifth highest-grossing domestic horror film of all time, according to Focus Features.

New releases included Sony Pictures Classics' 'Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass,' which debuted with $954,000 across 1,000 screens.

Magnolia Pictures' 'Maddie’s Secret' added an estimated $150,000 in its fourth week, bringing its total to $799,000.

IFC Films' 'Night Nurse' is projected to open with $72,000 on 330 screens.

Two Indian films also performed well: Shloka Entertainment’s Telugu romance 'Lenin' opened to $560,000 in 250 theaters, and Shree International’s Bollywood comedy 'Dhamaal 4' debuted with $467,000 across 387 theaters, as reported by Rentrak.

In limited openings, Greenwich Entertainment’s 'Reading Lolita in Tehran' premiered exclusively at NYC’s Angelika Film Center, earning an estimated $15,000.

Music Box Films' documentary 'Remake' debuted with $8,500 at Film Forum, receiving a 100% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Brainstorm Media’s 'The Floaters,' a Jewish summer camp comedy, also grossed $8,500 on a single screen in NYC.
