Adam Sandler took on an extra-special role on July 3, officiating the wedding of pop superstar Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

The ceremony, held at Madison Square Garden, saw hundreds of family and friends gather to celebrate the couple.

Sources close to the event told PEOPLE that Sandler was an "immediate yes" when asked to officiate, expressing that he "was incredibly honored to be part of such a special day." This development highlights the close relationships Sandler has cultivated within the entertainment and sports worlds, leading to his involvement in such a high-profile event.

Sandler's connection to the couple runs deep.

He has known Taylor Swift for years, often praising her kindness towards his family.

In a 2025 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Sandler remarked, "Taylor is so damn nice to my family and has always been." He added that his children have met Swift multiple times, and she has consistently been "ridiculously nice to them and warm."

His relationship with Travis Kelce also extends to professional collaborations.

Kelce is set to appear in Sandler's upcoming 2025 comedy, *Happy Gilmore 2*.

Sandler described Kelce as "such a gentle, nice guy, and funny as hell," drawing parallels to his own high school friends.

"When I was with Travis, it reminded me of my buddies in high school and just being able to laugh and say the things you want to say," Sandler shared.

The choice of Adam Sandler as officiant was reportedly seen as fitting due to his long and happy marriage to his wife, Jackie.

A PEOPLE source noted that Sandler was the "perfect person" for the role, given his personal experience.

His approach to the ceremony was heartfelt rather than performative; he "just wanted to speak from the heart and pass along a little wisdom that he’s gained from his own happy marriage."

While the full content of Sandler's officiating remarks remains private, Chiefs coach Andy Reid did share one memorable piece of advice.

Speaking at an event in Salt Lake City on July 5, Reid recounted Sandler's "simple, hysterical way" of delivering wisdom.

"He told them, ‘Keep kissing,’" Reid revealed, adding, "So, in its simplest form, that’s a good thing.

It’s hard to argue when you give your wife a kiss, or your wife gives you a kiss.

And make sure you do it every day, every minute that you have an opportunity to do it.

Knock it out, and you won’t have problems."

Hours before the wedding, Sandler was seen playing basketball in New York, and less than 48 hours after the ceremony, he was back on the court in Nantucket, playing pickup games.
