Adam Sandler Seeks Pickup Basketball Game After Officiating Taylor Swift's Wedding
Adam Sandler, known for his roles in films like "Happy Gilmore," recently sought assistance from the Nantucket Police Department to locate a pickup basketball game.
This unusual request occurred approximately 48 hours after Sandler officiated the high-profile New York City wedding of pop superstar Taylor Swift and NFL player Travis Kelce.
According to public safety dispatcher Chris Reynolds, Sandler, 59, contacted local authorities shortly after arriving in New Hampshire for the July Fourth weekend.
Reynolds recounted Sandler's query: "Sandler said, 'Hey, I’m here on your island and I like to play basketball.
Can you tell me where there’s a basketball court I could play on?'"
Following the police's guidance, Sandler found a court off Backus Lane, where he joined a group of teenagers for an impromptu game.
One of the teens, Andrew Kesler, described the encounter: "Adam Sandler rolled in a car and started playing pickups with the boys.
He's like, 'Guys, let me stretch I’m going to hop in.'" Kesler noted Sandler's "great passing and playmaking, decent lay-ups," adding that he "hesitated to shoot the ball." After the game, Sandler posed for pictures with the group.
Sandler's passion for basketball is well-documented, with the actor frequently seen playing at various courts over the years.
Notably, he was spotted playing basketball in intense heat just hours before officiating Swift and Kelce's ceremony at Madison Square Garden on July 3.
While Sandler might seem an unconventional choice for an officiant, he and the couple have a pre-existing relationship.
Swift is reportedly good friends with Sandler's daughters, Sunny and Sadie, and his wife, Jackie.
This connection extended to Travis Kelce, who appeared in last year's "Happy Gilmore 2," the sequel to Sandler's 1996 comedy.
In the sequel, Kelce played a restaurant manager who fires a busboy.
