Actress Eve Hewson recently shared details about her experiences working with acclaimed director Steven Spielberg, highlighting his distinctive methods for eliciting performances.

Hewson recounted a particularly high-pressure moment during the filming of her first major scene with Colin Firth for "Disclosure Day," a mind-control standoff.

The situation was intensified by the unexpected presence of former President Barack Obama, Steven Spielberg, and fellow cast members Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, and Josh O'Connor on set.

Hewson, the daughter of Bono, has been in the public eye for some time but found her path to acting through independent film and formal training at the New York Film Academy and NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

She noted that her unique style, which she describes as "mysterious and weird," initially made it challenging to find roles typically offered to "girl-next-door types."

Her first collaboration with Spielberg was a small role in "Bridge of Spies." For a scene requiring her to hide under a coffee table while soldiers simulated shooting, Spielberg stood just out of frame, banging two wooden bats together to startle her.

Hewson found this practical approach incredibly helpful, stating, "It was so practical, and so helpful, and I’d never had a director be that attuned to what I needed."

Years later, Spielberg continued to follow Hewson's career, watching her performances in projects like "The Luminaries," "Behind Her Eyes," and "Bad Sisters." When news broke of his new UFO movie, Hewson took notice.

She then received a call from her agent, leading to a Zoom meeting with Spielberg, who expressed his pride in her work and offered her the role of Jane.

Hewson was surprised to find her character was central to the script, appearing from the first page and throughout the film.

During the production of "Disclosure Day," Hewson observed Spielberg's continued intuitive directing.

For her character, who serves as the audience's surrogate, Spielberg would tell stories to help her access the necessary emotions.

She recalled him saying, "I’m right there with you," and noted that he would often become visibly emotional alongside his actors.

This deep engagement with his cast underscores why his projects often achieve such profound emotional resonance with audiences.
