Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson have addressed the significant fan reaction to their reunion on the set of Holmes' new film, "Happy Hours." The former "Dawson's Creek" co-stars are working together for the first time in 25 years on the project, which Holmes wrote and directed.

This collaboration has generated considerable buzz, with their on-screen reunion going viral multiple times.

Speaking with Variety, Katie Holmes admitted that the fan enthusiasm was "unexpected." She stated, "I know we were on a show that a lot of people watched, but I guess we never fully realized the impact.

It still kind of throws all of us." This insight highlights the enduring legacy of "Dawson's Creek" and its characters, Joey and Pacey, for a generation of viewers.

"Happy Hours" tells the story of two high school sweethearts, Liz and Andrew, who reconnect years later in New York City.

Liz, a freshly divorced photographer, and Andrew, a travel writer, navigate their past and present.

Holmes recalled approaching Jackson for the role of Andrew, asking him, "Is this even a potential?

Is this something you'd want to do?"

Holmes noted that despite the 25-year gap, a natural chemistry persisted between them.

"We hadn't worked together in 25 years, and we've changed a lot," she explained.

However, she added that being on set quickly revealed "a shorthand that we quickly realize still exists." Holmes also emphasized their desire to portray different characters, moving beyond their well-known "Dawson's Creek" roles.

"We've always done well working off one another.

He directs me and I direct him without us even mentioning it," Holmes shared.

She also discussed the film's broader theme, stating, "It's important to tell love stories that take place in many different chapters of a person's life.

You're allowed to fall in love in middle age.

I think that's a little underrepresented [in media]."

The film, which recently premiered at the TriBeCa Film Festival, is envisioned as the first installment of a trilogy.

In July 2025, when confirming the project on Instagram, Holmes expressed gratitude for working with friends and specifically mentioned Jackson, calling their collaboration "a testament to friendship." The cast also includes Constance Wu, Mary-Louise Parker, Joe Tippett, John McGinty, Donald Webber Jr., Nathan Darrow, Johnna Dias-Watson, and Jack Martin.
