Stephen Baldwin has recently addressed his departure from the 1998 romantic comedy *The Object of My Affection*, claiming he was dismissed for being "funnier" than his co-star, Jennifer Aniston.

This revelation, made 30 years after the film's production, offers a new perspective on a previously reported incident where Baldwin left the project due to "different interpretations of the part." This insight into a behind-the-scenes conflict highlights the complex dynamics that can influence casting decisions in Hollywood.

Baldwin was initially cast in the role of Vince McBride, the boyfriend of Aniston's character, in the film which also starred Paul Rudd.

However, he was replaced by John Pankow shortly after filming commenced.

Speaking on TJ Miller's podcast, *One Bad Move with Stephen Baldwin*, the actor recounted an interaction with a producer who allegedly told him, "There’s a problem.

You can’t be funnier than Jennifer."

Baldwin expressed his disbelief at the time, questioning if it was a joke, given that the film was a comedy.

He described the feedback as feeling like he had been "castrated comedically" and that he was being asked to "numb" himself.

He also speculated if the criticism was a cover for other issues, such as his appearance.

Baldwin drew a parallel to a similar experience on the 1989 drama *Casualties of War*, where he was also let go after creating a character that producers deemed "not working." He noted that in the case of *The Object of My Affection*, the feedback was more direct about his comedic performance.

After confronting the producers about their comments, Baldwin stated he was told he could go home.

Since his role in *The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas* in 2000, Stephen Baldwin has largely taken on direct-to-video films, faith-based dramas, and appearances on reality television shows such as *Celebrity Big Brother* and *The Celebrity Apprentice*.

Representatives for Jennifer Aniston and 20th Century Studios have been contacted for comment regarding Baldwin's claims.
