The 79th Tony Awards unfolded at Radio City Music Hall, with pop star Pink hosting the three-hour ceremony.

The event saw a mix of expected wins and memorable moments, drawing a significant number of film and television stars to celebrate Broadway's achievements.

This year's gathering highlighted the continued appeal of live theater for celebrities seeking a direct connection with their audience.

Among the notable attendees were Adrien Brody, John Lithgow, Laurie Metcalf, Rose Byrne, Daniel Radcliffe, Nathan Lane, and Alden Ehrenreich.

While the evening largely followed a predictable script for major awards, including "Schmigadoon!" for Best Musical and "Liberation" for Best Play, several individual triumphs and speeches stood out.

Bourzgui's Powerful Acceptance Speech

Ali Louis Bourzgui, at 26, delivered a striking acceptance speech after his unexpected win for performance by an actor in a featured role in a musical.

Bourzgui, who originated the role of David in the musical adaptation of "The Lost Boys," utilized the metaphor of vampires to address contemporary sociopolitical challenges.

He stated, "Vampires represent those who have shunned their own humanity in order to achieve a nonexistent sense of superiority.

The billionaires will never find happiness from their money.

The colonizers will never find fulfillment from the land and lives they steal.

The fascists will never find meaning from their conformity, not in this lifetime or eternity."

Veteran Actors Achieve Tony Milestones

John Lithgow and Laurie Metcalf both added a third Tony Award to their careers, securing back-to-back wins early in the show.

Lithgow received his award for performance by an actor in a leading role in a play for his portrayal of Roald Dahl in Mark Rosenblatt’s "Giant." Metcalf was honored for her role as Linda Loman in "Death of a Salesman." Lithgow's previous wins were in 1973 and 2002, while Metcalf's were in 2017 and 2018.

Nathan Lane, despite not winning for his performance as Willy Loman in "Death of a Salesman," was recognized by director Joe Mantello, who credited Lane as the inspiration for the production.

Lane later accepted the award for Best Revival of a Play on behalf of the company, emphasizing the play's focus on family.

Metcalf also thanked Lane and her fellow cast members for their contributions to her performance.

Joshua Henry's Rousing Ovation

Joshua Henry received the most enthusiastic standing ovation of the night for his win for performance by an actor in a leading role in a musical.

Henry was recognized for his critically acclaimed portrayal of Coalhouse Walker Jr.

in the revival of "Ragtime." Known for his role as Aaron Burr in the 2017 national tour of "Hamilton," Henry thanked his first vocal coach and acknowledged original "Ragtime" cast members Brian Stokes Mitchell and Audra McDonald during his acceptance speech.

Pink's Hosting Debut

Host Pink opened the show with an action-packed performance featuring over 150 performers and a guest appearance by Megan Thee Stallion.

During her opening, Pink, while suspended on a rope, humorously questioned her presence at the Tony Awards, stating, "I just want to show how much I love theater even though I’ve never been on Broadway." She added, "I’m just concerned people might be like, ‘Why’s Pink hosting the Tonys?’" This sentiment was echoed at other points during the evening.
