Uwe Boll's latest film, 'Citizen Vigilante,' has reportedly secured global distribution, a development that follows a significant promotional push from Elon Musk.

The movie, which features an Armie Hammer character, will now be available worldwide, with the exception of the U.K., German-speaking territories, Taiwan, and Korea.

Musk, who boasts nearly 240 million followers on X, previously encouraged his audience to download the film for free for a 48-hour period.

This unexpected promotion has seemingly played a role in the film's expanded reach.

The director, Uwe Boll, acknowledged in an interview with Variety that while the free promotion generated considerable buzz, its impact on the film's financial performance remains to be seen.

This situation highlights the complex interplay between widespread publicity and direct revenue for independent films.

Boll reflected on the dual nature of Musk's intervention, noting both the positive aspect of free publicity and the potential downside of encouraging free downloads for a film that had only recently been released.

He stated, "The question you have to evaluate is: Is that bringing more money in the end, or is that costing me a lot of money?

You know, you get a lot of PR, but you don’t get a lot of money." Boll anticipates that the financial implications will become clearer within the next four to six weeks.

Currently, Boll estimates that 'Citizen Vigilante' has generated around $600,000 from platforms such as iTunes, Google Play, and Prime Video downloads.

This figure is set against the film's reported budget of $2 million.

Despite the high-profile promotion, Boll suggests it's unlikely the film will replicate the box office success of other politically charged independent films, especially given its primary availability through home viewing platforms.
