Marvel Studios has unveiled a new iteration of the time-traveling villain Kang, introducing the variant Rama-Tut in *X-Men '97* Season 2.

This development comes after Jonathan Majors' departure from the role of Kang the Conqueror in the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

In *X-Men '97* Season 2, Episode 3, Rama-Tut appears as a significant antagonist, forcing an unexpected alliance between the X-Men and En Sabah Nur (Apocalypse) in the past.

This animated portrayal of Rama-Tut is voiced by *Star Trek: The Next Generation* actor John de Lancie, marking a clear distinction from Majors' previous live-action appearances.

The design of this animated Rama-Tut also deviates significantly from the live-action version seen in *Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania*'s post-credits scene.

While Majors' Kang was depicted in high-tech purple-and-black armor, the *X-Men '97* version draws directly from Marvel Comics, presenting a green-helmeted, caped pharaoh.

This design choice stands in contrast to the *Quantumania* decision, which suggested all Kang variants in the MCU Multiverse would resemble Majors.

This introduction of a distinct Rama-Tut signals Marvel Studios' strategic evolution in handling the character following Majors' legal issues.

Rather than abandoning the Kang mythos entirely, the studio appears to be selectively reimagining elements for individual projects like *X-Men '97*.

This approach allows the animated series to integrate Rama-Tut seamlessly into its narrative, particularly in exploring Apocalypse's origin, without being constrained by the established live-action Multiverse Saga continuity or the controversies surrounding the previous actor.

This move demonstrates Marvel's ability to course-correct and explore new narrative paths for its characters, ensuring that the concept of Kang variants can continue independently.

New episodes of *X-Men '97* Season 2 are released every Wednesday on Disney+.
