Carl Rinsch, the director behind the 2013 film "47 Ronin," has been sentenced to 2.5 years in prison after being convicted of defrauding Netflix.

The conviction stems from an $11 million sum Rinsch received from the streaming giant for an original sci-fi series titled “White Horse.” This development is significant as it concludes a high-profile case involving a director accused of misusing production funds.

The sentencing, handed down by Judge Jed S.

Rakoff of the Southern District of New York, also includes three years of supervised release, an $11 million forfeiture, and a $700 fine.

Rinsch, 48, had faced a potential maximum of nine years in prison for the offenses.

According to reports, Rinsch addressed the court during his sentencing, offering an apology and accepting responsibility for his actions.

The director was found to have diverted the funds provided by Netflix into a personal account.

These funds were then reportedly used for speculative cryptocurrency trading and a personal spending spree.

Notably, actor Keanu Reeves, who starred in Rinsch's film "47 Ronin," submitted a letter to the court in support of the director prior to the sentencing.

Rinsch's legal counsel declined to comment on the outcome of the case.
