Actor Wil Wheaton has publicly criticized Dwayne Johnson's decision to refrain from sharing his political views, labeling the star a "coward." This comes after Johnson's recent interview with Esquire, where he stated his intention to "keep my politics to myself."

Wheaton, known for his role in *Stand By Me* and as a vocal critic of former President Trump, expressed his disappointment on Threads.

His comment was made in response to a post by George Takei, which highlighted Johnson's remarks to Esquire and noted the divided fan reaction to his silence.

Johnson elaborated on his stance in the Esquire interview, explaining that he prioritizes his creative work and storytelling.

He believes that publicly sharing his political opinions could distract from his primary focus.

"What I have learned through experience," Johnson told the outlet, "is that I need to keep — need, not want — the main thing the main thing.

And the main thing for me, the thing that in the morning I swing my legs out of bed and I run towards, is creating.

It’s art.

It’s storytelling."

He further explained his aversion to the divisive nature of politics.

"Politics is omnipresent and it’s forever.

I don’t like it.

[Laughs.] I hate it at times.

I hate the slinging.

I hate all the bulls--- that comes with it." Johnson suggested that individuals with political disagreements should engage in direct conversation rather than public call-outs.

This current position marks a shift for Johnson, who endorsed Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential campaign.

However, he later told Fox News in 2024 that he regretted that endorsement.

He explained that his previous decision led to "division," which he found deeply upsetting.

"Am I gonna do that again this year?

That answer is no, I'm not gonna do that, because what I realized — what that caused back then — was something that tears me up in my guts, back then and now, which is division," he stated.
