As the 2026 Emmys approach, early predictions point to several strong contenders in the comedy categories, with established favorites and new arrivals vying for nominations.

The landscape suggests a mix of returning champions and fresh faces could shape the upcoming awards.

HBO Max's showbiz satire, "Hacks," is a frontrunner, expected to secure another nomination for Best Comedy Series for its final season.

The show has a history of success, including a win in 2024.

Its stars, Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, are also anticipated to defend their titles in the lead actress and supporting actress categories, respectively.

Smart's performance as Deborah Vance has been particularly dominant, with her having won an Emmy in all four seasons she has played the character so far.

Apple TV's "Shrinking" is another series predicted to earn its second consecutive nomination for Best Comedy Series.

Its stars, Jason Segel and Harrison Ford, are considered strong candidates for Best Lead Actor and Supporting Actor.

Other returning nominees expected to be in the mix include "Abbott Elementary" and "Only Murders in the Building."

However, the future for former winner "The Bear" appears less certain.

While its fourth season is eligible this year and is seen by some as a strong comeback, there's speculation that voters might penalize it for a perceived dip in quality or for being less overtly comedic.

Despite this, stars Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri are still likely to be nominated in their respective acting categories, though the show's era of Emmy dominance may be waning.

Among the new arrivals, Apple TV's "Widow's Bay" and "Margo's Got Money Troubles" are looking to make an impact in their debut seasons.

There's also anticipation for the return of HBO's "The Comeback," with Lisa Kudrow potentially securing another Best Actress nod for her role as Valerie Cherish, possibly even challenging Jean Smart for the win.

Conversely, Netflix's rom-com "Nobody Wants This" might miss out on nominations after a less-than-stellar sophomore run, alongside previous nominees "Wednesday" and "Jury Duty."

Other potential dark horses include HBO's "The Chair Company" for a surprise nomination, Hulu's "Malcolm in the Middle" revival, Ethan Hawke's acclaimed performance in FX's "The Lowdown," and Steve Carell's HBO college comedy "Rooster."
