Producer Scott Rudin has been awarded a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play for his role as lead producer on the revival of *Death of a Salesman*.

This win marks a significant moment for Rudin, who had previously stepped away from the industry following public claims of bad behavior.

The award was accepted by actor Nathan Lane on behalf of the production, as Rudin was not present at the Tony Awards ceremony.

Lane, who was also nominated for his performance in the play, expressed gratitude to the American Theatre Wing and highlighted the contributions of director Joe Mantello and playwright Arthur Miller.

*Death of a Salesman*, starring Laurie Metcalf, Nathan Lane, and Christopher Abbott, also saw Metcalf win the Tony for Best Lead Actress in a Play, and Mantello for his direction.

Abbott and Lane received nominations but did not win in their respective categories.

Rudin's absence from the industry began after a Hollywood Reporter story detailed multiple allegations from former employees regarding bullying, verbal abuse, and throwing objects.

Following the article and a subsequent protest on Broadway, Rudin resigned from the Broadway League and largely ceased producing for several years.

His previous Broadway work included high-profile musical revivals like *The Music Man* and *Hello, Dolly!*, alongside smaller, less commercial plays.

His return to producing began with assisting Barry Diller on programming for Little Island and included an off-Broadway production earlier this spring.

Rudin's full return to Broadway producing occurred this fall, with *Death of a Salesman* being one of his critically acclaimed productions.

This development is notable as it signals a formal recognition of his work after a period of professional withdrawal.

While his return has been met with little outward pushback, some tension has been reported.

According to The New Yorker, actress Laurie Metcalf reportedly had to threaten to quit the Steppenwolf Theatre Company to secure the rights for Rudin's production of *Little Bear Ridge Road*, a play originally commissioned by Steppenwolf.

The Chicago-based company had reportedly refused to work with Rudin to bring the play to Broadway.

Mantello, the director, offered a more nuanced perspective, stating his belief in Rudin's accountability and the concept of second chances.

Metcalf, when asked about Rudin's return, described the situation as "touchy." She noted that Rudin had discussed his therapy, apologized, owned his actions, and reflected on them, suggesting he was undergoing a process of rehabilitation.
